ASB Foreign Aid
ASB Foreign Aid Department provides both direct emergency relief to people hit by man-made or natural disasters and longer-term rehabilitation measures designed to promote recovery and to rapidly help restore the livelihood of refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable people. ASB currently has a portfolio of more than 50 relief, rehabilitation, development and DRR projects in countries like Niger, Nicaragua, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Nepal, Haiti, Georgia, Ukraine, Iraq, and Greece.
ASB Greece
ASB started its activities in Greece in March 2016, focusing on the provision of Humanitarian Aid to refugees/migrants. In 2017 ASB Greece built the technical facilities and shelters for the Diavata camp. Since 2018, ASB Greece has provided support at five accommodation sites in the Epirus Region (Katsikas, Filippiada, Konitsa (closed in 2018), Doliana (closed in 2021) and Ag. Eleni). In 2019, ASB with the funding of the Directorate - General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Union (DG HOME) and in coordination with IOM implemented the "Improving the Greek Reception System Through Site Management Support and Targeted Interventions in Long - Term Accommodation Sites" project. The project focused on Site Management Support (SMS) services and includes Protection and Non-Formal Education. In 2020/21 ASB with the funding of DG HOME and in coordination with IOM implemented the Program “Supporting the Greek Authorities in Managing the National Reception System for Asylum Seekers and Vulnerable Migrants (SMS)”. The project “Supporting the Greek Authorities in Managing the National Reception System for Asylum Seekers and Vulnerable Migrants (SMS)” came to an end on the 31st December 2021. As of January 2022, ASB with the funding of DG HOME and in coordination with IOM is implementing the Program “Harmonizing Protection Practices in Greece (HARP)”. Maintenance, security and cleaning services have been taken over by the Greek state while ASB in cooperation with IOM is making efforts to cover current gaps in service provision and will continue to do so until full handover of all services is completed. In addition to this, as of October 1st 2021, ASB with the support of UNICEF and in cooperation with DRC is implementing the program All Children in Education. The ASB country office is based in Thessaloniki, while the Epirus regional office is in Ioannina.
2. Job Overview/Summary:
Refugees and asylum seekers in particular face specific problems, such as vulnerability resulting from traumas suffered, lack of documentation regarding personal qualifications, period of inactivity prior to and during the asylum procedure, cultural and language barriers, risks and challenges in accessing the education system and the labour market.
Employment plays a central role in the integration process, finding a job is fundamental to participate to the host country’s economic and social life and to tackle the social and cultural challenges that refrain refugees and asylum seekers from accessing decent accommodation standards, living conditions and economic inclusion.
Lack of local language skills and the pressing need for sustainability independent of the humanitarian response is a pressing concern in the light of the change in the Greek context from one of emergency support to one that focuses on durable solutions.
Main aim is to focus on Skills Development and Employability Support activities adopting an all-encompassing approach targeted to orient and support the participants through providing key knowledge and tools to effectively approach the labour market in Greece with focus on all its relevant aspects and the necessary personal developmental skills.
The the Skills Development and Employability Support Manager will lead the co-design and adaptive delivery of the program strategy to support the improvement of beneficiaries‘ skills and knowledge in order to adequately integrate to the local society and local job market.
The Skills Development and Employability Support Manager will lead the monitoring, evaluation, the design and the actual implementation of ASB’s Skills Development and Employability Support activities in 3 open accommodation facilities in Epirus, Greece (Katasikas, Filipiada and Agia Eleni).
The Skills Development and Employability Support Manager will plan and oversee the implementation of all activities, will provide technical guidance and supervision to ASB’s Employability Support Officers and Skill Development Assistants and will engage with relevant stakeholders.
The Skills Development and Employability Support Manager capacity building initiatives and trainings related to counselling and employability support with a focus on adults afging from 18 to 59. Finally, the Skills Development and Employability Support Manager is expected to give input on the MEAL strategy and structures of ASB Greece, especially related to complaint mechanisms and accountability.
